Bob Marley Mausoleum, Nine Mile
Nine Mile is the hill village where Bob Marley was born and where he is buried. The site takes in his childhood home, the rock he wrote about in “Talkin’ Blues”, and the mausoleum holding his remains alongside his mother's, with guitars, awards and photographs on display. Admission is charged and includes a guided tour; local musicians usually play Marley songs while you wait.
The drive is the part to plan around. It is only about 49 km, but the second half leaves the coast and climbs into the interior on roads that tour operators themselves describe as narrow, winding and potholed. Budget an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half each way, not the fifty minutes the distance suggests.
